patrickscottbarry Even upon the very first listen, Home Despot’s “Ultraviolence” is an exercise in great, sophisticated songwriting. Belle’s innate worldliness and intelligence is very well encapsulated in “Ultraviolence”, simply put. While there is a certain detached formidableness in Belle’s delivery and lyricism, one can’t seem to deny a welcoming lure from our dark troubadour as we are slowly cocooned into their musical world.

lyrics

Ultra, ultra violence
at sunset
the old boys, placing bets on their favorite pets
we are getting out alive
cause I feel like a newborn
with a thorn in my side
and eyes open wide
I don't want to see but I do
I don't want to see but I do
I don't wanna

Ultra, ultra conflict
at the strip mall exit
but the bat is in our hands, in a positive twist
just how many have we lost?
cause I feel like a born again,
nails to the cross
teeth white from flossing too much
I don't want to be, but I do
I don't want to be, but I do
I don't wanna

ooooh, I can see why they thought this would never end
it's just a body on a body on a body man
who gives two fucks about your bodily autonomy?
me.
if i wake up feeling like james dean in stilettos then I am
well then I am
if I want to use these heels to draw lines in the sand
well then I can
I want nothing, nothing more
then to take a crow bar to those doors
so I can see you,
and what those arms can do
and who you'll stick it to
the moment that
we
finally
get
a
chance.
